Terms of use

Återstod is an independent search engine run by Sox Glade ("we", "us"). By using Återstod (the website, the API or the thumbnails) you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

1. What Återstod is

We crawl the public web and build an index that points to pages, images and files published by other people. We don't host, own or control that content, and listing it doesn't mean we endorse it. Summaries, tags, titles and short introductions on Återstod are generated automatically, partly by AI, from what we crawled. Thumbnails are small previews made from publicly available images.

2. Disclaimer

Återstod is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. In particular:

• Results link to third-party sites we don't control. They may be inaccurate, outdated, offensive, unsafe or unlawful where you are. Visit them at your own risk.
• AI-generated summaries and introductions can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check the original source before relying on anything.
• Content labels, filters (including the adult-content setting) and dates are automatic and imperfect.
• The service may change, be interrupted or be discontinued at any time.

3. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Sox Glade and anyone working on Återstod won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) Återstod or any content it links to. Our total liability for any claim relating to Återstod is limited to US $50. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

4. Acceptable use

Don't use Återstod to break the law or harm others. In particular, don't:

• try to disrupt, overload or break into the service, or get around rate limits, blocks or access controls;
• use it to find or distribute content that exploits minors, or to harass, stalk or dox people;
• send false reports or removal requests, or impersonate someone else;
• present Återstod's results or summaries as your own service in a way that misleads people about where they came from.

We may block access that breaks these terms.

5. Automated access and scraping

Programs, bots and AI agents must use the Återstod API and stay within its published rate limits. Bulk or automated scraping of the HTML website is not allowed. Higher API limits are available to bots that verify and bond their identity with Moonsox (send the X-Moonsox-Bot-Id header; see the API page). Don't hide or rotate identities to get around limits.

6. Copyright and DMCA

We respect copyright. Återstod is an information location tool (17 U.S.C. § 512(d)). If you believe a result links to or shows material that infringes your copyright, send a notice through our removal form. A notice must include:

1. identification of the copyrighted work;
2. the URLs of the material you want removed;
3. your name, address, telephone number and email;
4. a statement that you have a good faith belief the use isn't authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
5. a statement that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner;
6. your physical or electronic signature (a typed full name is fine).

We remove or disable access to material identified in a valid notice, and removals stay in place when we re-crawl. If you believe material was removed by mistake, you can send a counter-notice through the same form (choose "Other legal request" and mention the reference number) with: your name, address and phone; the removed URLs; a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification; consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, outside the US, any district where we may be found) and to accept service from the person who filed the notice; and your signature. After a valid counter-notice we may restore the material 10 to 14 business days later unless the original complainant tells us they've filed a court action. Misrepresentations in notices or counter-notices can make you liable for damages (§ 512(f)).

7. Privacy and other removal requests

How we handle data is described in our privacy notice. If a result exposes you or your family (private photos, home address or phone number, intimate images shared without consent), use the privacy request form; these requests are reviewed within 24 hours. Court orders and other legal requests go through the same form.

8. Third-party sites and services

Links and thumbnails lead to sites we don't control, with their own terms and privacy practices. AI features are provided with the help of third-party AI providers.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law where you live requires otherwise. Disputes will be handled in the courts located there, unless applicable law gives you the right to bring them elsewhere.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version; significant changes will be noted on this page. Using Återstod after a change means you accept the updated terms.
